Who we are & what we do
Gateway Automation is a proudly Canadian, family-owned business. We service all of the Greater Toronto area and much of Southern Ontario including King City, Caledon, Guelph, Orangeville, Stouffville, Aurora and Newmarket.
Being family-owned means we personally deal with each and every gate we produce, so you will get the personal service and attention to detail that other mass-production companies just can’t offer. Because we are family-owned, we don’t have huge overhead costs that we have to pass on to you, so you know that the value you get is second to none.
Almost 30 years ago, Eric’s Father Ken’s parent’s country property was broken into and his father’s beloved lawn tractor was stolen. They were told by the police that the best defense against theft was a gate. They looked into installing an automatic gate, but found nothing. Ken decided to design and build one himself, but when people started asking where it was from and if they could buy one too, Gateway Automation was born as Eric’s version of his fathers work. Eric has come a long way since then, adding more products as the industry grew.
Erik’s journey in the gate industry began alongside his father’s company, Estate Advancements. Working side by side for years, Erik honed his skills and gained invaluable expertise. Fueled by a desire to carve his own path, he embarked on a new venture, founding his own business—Gateway Automations—a testament to his unwavering passion and commitment to craftsmanship.
With a wealth of experience accumulated over countless years, Erik takes his family legacy to new heights through Gateway Automation, setting the standard for custom gate craftsmanship.
We see our relationship with our customers in these simple terms:
We are proud of our approach to business. Put us to the test, we live our philosophy every day.
We want to be absolutely sure that every step of the job is done perfectly. So we use our unique 8-step process to ensure our premium quality shines through every step of the way! You will also know exactly where we are in the development of your custom gate, making it easy to track the project.
1. Discuss how you want your gate to work
a. The gate will soon become your ‘front door’, so understanding what your individual needs are is very important. Do you want the gate to open for guests automatically? Do you want to know when someone pulls up to the gate? Do you want gates to open for alarms? How do you want to operate your gate, either with keypads, and or remotes, and/or driveway sensors?
b. Do you require a sliding versus swing design gate, and understand the pros and cons of both?
2. Discover what style you are hoping to achieve with the design of your gate.
Do you want any fence sections? Do you prefer modern design over a classical wrought iron look? Would you rather have masonry pillars versus steel light posts?
3. Detailed custom design proposal
We make detailed custom design proposals based on your needs and wants. We clearly tell you what we are going to do, and disclose anything that may not be included in the original proposal. We want to prevent any surprises!
4. Present you with scale CAD (computer-aided design) drawing
We present you with scale CAD (computer-aided design) drawings based on previous discussions. You can either pick from our designs or further fine-tune with your feedback if necessary.
5. Meet with all trades people involved with the project
We arrange to meet with all trades people involved with the project (i.e. landscapers, electricians, security, and masonry). We ensure everyone knows what to do and understands the timeline. All discussions with our trades people are copied to you.
6. Produce gate in house
Unlike some companies, our gates are produced in house by our skilled employees with our high level of quality control.
7. Prepare site for installation
At the same time your gate is being created, on-site preparation work is scheduled and performed, such as installing steel hinge posts into masonry or as free standing light posts, conduits and excavations, etc.
8. Final installation
Final installation is scheduled and installed on the promised date. We meet with relevant automation/security system professionals to integrate the gates with existing systems if needed. Finally we perform a complete training session with you and your families to make sure all your questions are answered. And we are always just a phone call away should you have any future questions or concerns!
Nobody knows gates better than we do. Our family has been in the gate business for decades, and there isn’t a challenge or situation that we haven’t seen and been able to overcome. Since we work on all kinds of automatic gates, we can help you no matter what you are looking for. Gateway Automations’ experience in design, production and installation of your gate means you can relax knowing that you are working with the best!

Ken’s background in machining, electronics and sales, as well as his interest in everything new (he likes to read textbooks), is a perfect blend for this business. His proficiency at CAD allows him to make scale drawings for our customers and his flair for design is evident in all his beautiful work.
